Album Review: “The Final RIOT! Deluxe Edition” by Paramore

Well… on Paramore.net… they asked fans to review the new live album. So I did. Now I am posting my review here… I got the deluxe edition… so you get to hear about all the extra stuff… ENJOY!

DVD:

Awesome. The performance was great. It was recorded in my hometown… so that is some extra awesome points right there. The power the band gave was awesome. They were very energetic and it made it a pleasure to watch. Not once was I wanting it to just be over. Though… some of the visual effects I could of gone without. Most of the time they were cool… sometimes they just got in the way of the show. The documentary was both informative and funny. It is interlaced with the performance very well and it always leaves you wanting more. The special features on the Deluxe Edition… to tell you the truth… were kinda a disappointment. The extra director’s cut footage was kinda smaller then I thought and most of it was just parts in the regular documentary that was elongated to show you all of it… not saying that’s a bad thing… I just thought that maybe… MAYBE there could of been a BIT more… just a TINY bit. But what they had there was awesome. The photo gallery was pretty cool. There were some real nice pictures there set to some real good music. Now… the thing that disappointed me the most out of all the extra stuff… not saying it was bad… it was awesome… was the music video for “Let The Flames Begin”. That is pretty much my favorite Paramore song and I thought it would be really cool to see a music video for it. Then I saw it and realized it was basically what I just finished watching. The live performance of this song was amazing… don’t get me wrong… but I was just kinda expecting more. The thing that bugged me the most about it is how there was almost a time machine effect in it. In one clip… you would see Hayley get down on her knees for the outro… but then the next clip… you will see the same thing happen again… just at a different angle. Now… that is just me being completely honest. Overall though… it was freaking awesome.

CD:

Also awesome. The quality was real good for a live album and all the intros and outros added to the songs live just SCREAMED for a live CD to come out… and it is awesome to be able to have those extra tid-bits of awesomeness in a CD form so you can have it at awesome quality and officially.

Packaging:

When I looked at the case for the Deluxe Edition… right off the bat… I knew it was something special. I pulled out the art book and looked through it… it was awesome. The pictures in there were either artistic… cool… or just plain funny. It looked just like the tour program so you don’t really feel like you were missing out on anything if you got this. The special long case for the CD and DVD really helps keep them safe and non-wiggly. Though… it sometimes is a pain to get the disks out and put them back in without having to worry a bit about scratching them. The laminate was a nice touch… really makes you feel special… but it could of had a better holder. With my OCD… I always have to keep things from CDs where they were… slipcases… extra stuff… pretty much anything. Every time I opened the CD case… or even took it out from the slip case… the laminate would just fall out. But… still… it was some awesome extra stuff.

So all in all… it was awesome. Totally worth the $35. It is/was limited to 5,000 copies… so if you hurry up… you may still be able to grab the deluxe edition. Yeah… I just checked… the deluxe edition is sadly sold out. BUT: the regular edition is selling at Target for $15. It just has the CD and DVD in a regular CD/DVD case. It does come with a regular booklet… but not with the art book.. photo gallery/director’s cut footage/”Let The Flames Begin” music video extras on the DVD… the fake backstage pass… or the special longer packaging.

Paramore + New Music Video = EPIC.

(Okay… it is a sad excuse for a news story… but at least it is one, right?)

The rock band Paramore, which is pretty much the only band with members under the age of 20 that is AWESOME, released a new single for the movie “Twilight” called “Decode”. The song itself was released a few weeks ago, but the music video for it was just released. It depicts Hayley and company preforming the song in a forest that looks a lot like the forest from the clips shown from the movie. It works… because… naturally… with it being the first single off the soundtrack… it has to have movie clips in it! A good amount of the clips are new and unseen before the music video, so all you teenage girls jump on that. The soundtrack comes out November 4 and the movie releases on November 11. I am going to see this. I don’t care if I am a guy… THERE ARE VAMPIRES IN IT! You can watch the music video here. I hate having to link to MTV.

Rumor: NIN Releasing Remastered Versions of Older Albums, Limited Edition of Year Zero? UPDATE: DEBUNKED!

The funniest thing happened. I was looking around the NIN forums when I found a post titled (and I quote): “OMG Special Limited Edition Year Zero and Others!!!” My OCD kicked in when I read the “Limited Edition” because I am OCD to getting every Limited Edition thing I can get my hands on. Apparently, Best Buy kinda f’ed up. In the post, there was a link to this page, a page showing all the upcoming NIN releases. It shows a Limited Edition of Trent’s Concept Album “Year Zero” and SHM (Super High Material which means even BETTER quality then remastered CDs) versions of “Pretty Hate Machine”, “The Downward Spiral” and “The Fragile”. Trent has always said that he has been interested in re-releasing the older albums in a remastered format, but the thing that screams “FAKE” to me is how they say “The Downward Spiral” is being re-released. This would be the FIFTH (counting the first time) this album would be released (Original, Duel-Disc, Deluxe Double Disk Edition, LP Record, and this). I mean, I know it is their most successful album, but FIVE TIMES? I either think this is Best Buy slipping up and posting info a BIT too early (Year Zero LE “release date”: 11/19/2008, Album remasters “release date”: 12/3/2008) or Best Buy being a-holes (again) and just teasing the NIN fans around the world with fake albums. These are available for Pre-Order, so if you want to grab your copy of these “mystery albums”, go right ahead. But I am NOT spending $60 on a remastered version of “The Fragile”, no matter how much I love that album. Keep in mind, none of this has been confirmed by NIN or NIN’s representatives, so for the moment, we have to say this is a RUMOR.

Update: The SHM versions of the disk have been announced as releases of the disks in Japan. Nothing special. No new news about the LE of Year Zero though.

Sting is PLAYABLE in GHIV (Gee, HIV!)

Your MOM likes Sting.

Yes, the frontman of The Police, Sting, will be a PLAYABLE character in Guitar Hero: On Tour, or how I like to say it GHIV (Pronounced Gee, HIV). Not sure if he will be as mobile as the OLD Sting or the Sting we have right now. Let’s hope the first one, might break his hip. No, I’m just kidding! You know we love you Sting!

Update: So now the list of playable musicans from the real world as of September 6, 2008 is:

Hayley Williams (Lead Singer of Paramore)

Jimi Hendrix (Lead Guitar and Lead Singer of The Jimi Hendrix Experience)

Ozzy Osbourne (Lead Singer of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne)

Zakk Wylde (Lead Guitar for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society)

Billy Corgan (Lead Guitar and Lead Singer of Smashing Pumpkins)

Sting (Mentioned Above)

Travis Barker *Rumored* (Drummer of Blink-182 and +44)

Ted Nugent *Rumored* (Lead Guitar of The Amboy Dukes and Lead Guitar and Lead Singer of Ted Nugent)

Update 2:

Ted Nugent has been confirmed and is even a boss!

Yes… yes… oh, and guess what? YES.

Awesomeness?

YAY! They are making a new TMNT movie! Even though that CGI one didn’t make enough money. Best part? It’s… Live… Action. Let’s hope they are as good as the older Live Action ones! TMNT, You know I love ya!

Treyarch, you a-holes.

Well, if any one watches the Daily Show, you saw how on Thursday’s show, Treyarch gave Michael Phelps the first copy of Call of Duty: World at War. At least, that’s what they WANTED you to think. Read what one developer from Treyarch said about this “fake” exchange.

“As it turns out, Michael Phelps is a big Call of Duty fan, so we wanted to give him the first copy of CoD:WW. It’s well deserved Michael!…Now what you didn’t see is the “I O U” card that was contained within =D… Yes, unfortunately the game isn’t quite finished yet, but it’s close. We’ll be sending Michael the first disc off the production line though later this year, we promise!”

Well, THANKS. I just don’t want to be there when Phelps finds that out and beats the crap out of you with his gold medals.

Rumor: Halo 4: Launch Title for New Xbox and by Gearbox?

Yes, you heard right. There is talk going around that the next Official Xbox Magazine will reveal that Halo 4 will be a Launch Title for the new Xbox, but more surprising, will be made by Gearbox. Gearbox made some Half-Life games and also made Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC and Mac and Halo: Custom Edition for the PC. So, if they do end up making it, I’m fine with it, I believe they will do fine.
